The Yo Soy Arte project celebrates Latinx culture and heritage through music, dance, and the arts, with a strong focus on increasing local Latinx artist representation in cultural spaces and activities. This collective brings together artists from diverse backgrounds, skill levels, and generations to preserve and promote the rich cultural contributions of the Latinx community.
About the Collective:
Led by Laura Cabrera, a versatile artist, mother, singer, and ukulele player, Yo Soy Arte strives to foster unity and celebration. Originally from Oaxaca and raised in Veracruz, Mexico, Laura is not only an advocate for the arts but also for women's rights. As the founder of Yo Soy Arte and its accompanying band, Laura has become a recognized figure in both the Latinx and broader Berkshire community. Her artistic work has graced prominent spaces such as MASS MoCA, Berkshire Busk, Berkshire Community College, Apple Tree Inn, and Mission & Becket Arts.
In 2022, she was honored with the 25 Berkshire Magazine Recognition, and more recently, Laura was named Regional Commissioner for the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women, where she advocates for legislative reforms to ensure gender equality and equal opportunities for women and girls.
